Cyprus Social Insurance & GESY Calculator
What a salary costs an employer and what reaches the employee, with each fund charged against its own ceiling.
Methodology
How this is calculated
Contributions are charged on emoluments, but not every fund uses the same ceiling. Treating the whole package as one capped rate overstates cost below the ceiling and understates it above.
Contribution = min(Salary, ceiling for that fund) x rateRates and ceilings for 2026
| Fund | Side | Rate | Ceiling |
|---|---|---|---|
| Social Insurance | Employer | 8.80% | 68,904 |
| General Healthcare System (GESY) | Employer | 2.90% | 180,000 |
| Social Cohesion Fund | Employer | 2.00% | None, total emoluments |
| Redundancy Fund | Employer | 1.20% | 68,904 |
| Industrial Training Fund | Employer | 0.50% | 68,904 |
| Social Insurance | Employee | 8.80% | 68,904 |
| General Healthcare System (GESY) | Employee | 2.65% | 180,000 |
The annual maximum insurable emoluments figure for 2026 is 68,904, equivalent to 1,325 per week or 5,742 per month. For 2025 it was 66,612 and for 2024 it was 62,868, so a model built on an earlier year understates the ceiling and therefore understates cost.
Why the blended rate only holds at lower salaries
Up to 68,904, employer contributions total 15.40 percent and employee contributions 11.45 percent, a combined 26.85 percent. Above that point social insurance, redundancy and training stop accruing, so the marginal employer rate drops to the 2.00 percent Social Cohesion Fund plus 2.90 percent GESY, and the marginal employee rate drops to 2.65 percent GESY alone.
The Social Cohesion Fund is the exception that catches people out. It is calculated on total emoluments with no maximum, so it continues at 2.00 percent however large the salary.
The Holiday Fund
A Holiday Fund contribution of 8 percent applies unless the employer operates an approved scheme and has obtained an exemption. It is restricted to the same ceiling as social insurance. The toggle above adds it.
What this does not do
- It does not compute income tax. Contributions and income tax are separate charges, and employee contributions reduce taxable income, which this model does not apply.
- It does not handle self-employed contributions, which run at 16.6 percent on notional income bands set by profession rather than on actual salary.
- It does not model directors' fees, which for GESY purposes fall under the office holder categories at 2.65 and 2.90 percent rather than under employment.
- GESY is charged on income from all sources against a single ceiling, so salary, dividends, rent and interest share the same 180,000 limit.

Illustrative only, not a determination
This calculator applies published rules to the figures you enter. It does not know your facts, and a position that holds on these numbers may not hold on yours. A short conversation establishes which of the assumptions above actually apply to your situation.
